Principles of Implementation Science and the Exploration Process

An overview of the research behind best practices in implementation that can be applied across school systems. Examples of how these principles can be incorporated into the selection and implementation of mathematics curriculum and resources will be highlighted. Participants will become familiar with the basic principles of effective implementation, be able to identify ways to develop implementation plans for improved outcomes, and identify key activities to engage in as new users begin to plan the implementation of the Stepping Stones program in their school system.

Installation

Summer 2019

Preparing for Implementation

School systems that have selected to implement ORIGO Stepping Stones will be guided through the essential steps to prepare for implementation. The Installation stage will be covered which focuses on developing the infrastructures that will support the implementation of the Stepping Stones program. This includes logistic planning for ongoing training, coaching, and supervision. Decisions made at this stage include funding, resources, and the training of personnel involved in the project.

Initial Implementation

Fall 2019

Getting Started, Getting Better

Learn the key features and activities of the Initial Implementation stage. During this stage, new practices are implemented, and the school system leadership team responsible for oversight of implementation uses a Plan, Do, Study, Act cycle to monitor progress and adjust the implementation plan along the way. Information will be shared in this webinar related to the collection and analysis of implementation fidelity data so that the team can identify barriers and seek solutions to change practice and improve implementation efforts.

Planning for Full Implementation

Spring 2020

Continuous Improvement and Scaling Up

Participants will be guided to reflect upon the successes and challenges they faced during Initial Implementation to plan for Full Implementation. During the Full Implementation stage, practitioners are in a routine while implementing the program and practice. They are comfortable with the materials and components of the program, and few changes are made in the ongoing use of the practice. Plans are made to make adjustments the initial implementation plan prepare for Full Implementation during the following school year.

Dr. Jennifer Dale’s competency in reserach-based implementation, system change, and system coaching has facilitated the application of key processes among state and local teams to improve student outcomes. She served as a co-lead on a team responsible for the implementation of ORIGO Stepping Stones across all elementary schools in a school district in Maryland.
